What Are Synced Lyrics?
Synced lyrics are song lyrics that scroll line-by-line in time with the music, highlighting the active line as the song plays — like karaoke without the cover-version backing track.
Synced lyrics are typically delivered via the LRC format, which encodes a timestamp for every line. Apps that support synced lyrics (Apple Music, Tidal, Trending Music, Spotify Premium) read the LRC, render it on screen, and advance the highlight as the audio progresses.
The hardest problem isn't the format — it's the data. LRCs have to be hand-timed for every song, and most catalogs only have synced lyrics for top tracks. Less popular songs default to plain (un-synced) lyrics or none at all.
Synced lyrics are great for learning songs, singing along, and following along when you can't make out a vocal. They're also one of the simplest discovery tools — reading what an unfamiliar song is actually saying often shifts how you hear it.
