Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2, 2026
1. Introduction
Trending Music (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Trending Music iOS application and the marketing website at trending.fm (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account we collect a username, email address, and a password (stored as a salted hash — we never see your plaintext password). You may optionally provide a display name, avatar image, bio, and favorite genre.
You may use the app without an account; an anonymous session is created on first launch and no personal information is collected until you sign up.
Listening Activity
We record songs you play, what you favorite, the playlists you build, and how long you listen. This data powers AI DJ, Daily Mix, Right Now, and your weekly recap.
Your listening history is private by default. It only becomes visible to other users (in the leaderboard, public profiles, or activity feed) if you explicitly enableSettings → Social & Privacy → Share Listening Activity.
AI DJ & Voice Input
The AI DJ accepts voice commands through your device's microphone. Speech is transcribed on-deviceusing Apple's Speech Recognition framework — your raw audio is not sent to our servers. The transcribed text is then sent to our recommendation service to adjust the current DJ session and is not retained beyond that session.
When the optional DJ narrator is enabled, lightweight context (current song, mode chip, recent skips) is sent to our AI service to generate the next script. Spoken audio is synthesized on-device via Apple's text-to-speech framework. We don't store DJ scripts after the session ends.
Shazam a Song
The Shazam a Song feature (Settings → Music Experience → Shazam a Song) captures audio from your device's microphone for a few seconds and uses Apple's ShazamKit framework to identify the song playing around you. We do not record or upload the microphone audio, and we do notretain identification results after the session ends. Only the matched song's title and artist are used to look up a streamable version inside Trending.
Library Data
We store your favorites, playlists, saved albums, and queue so they sync across your devices when you sign in.
Purchase Information
Subscription payments are processed by Apple via the App Store. We receive subscription status and a transaction identifier; we do not have access to your payment method (credit card, Apple Pay tokens, etc.).
Device & Technical Data
We collect standard technical data including device model, iOS version, app version, IP address (used for content delivery, not stored long-term), crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics, and anonymous usage analytics via Firebase Analytics. This helps us troubleshoot issues and improve the Service.
Push Notifications
If you grant permission, we may send push notifications for new features, weekly recaps, or playback reminders. You can disable these at any time in iOS Settings or in-app Notification Preferences.

- Legal obligations — We may disclose data if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights and safety.
6. Cookies & Local Storage
The trending.fm marketing website uses minimal cookies — none for tracking or advertising. The iOS app stores library data, preferences, and offline downloads locally on your device.
7. Data Retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Listening history used for recommendations may be retained in aggregated, anonymized form.
You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your personal data, playlists, favorites, and social connections from our servers. Some anonymized aggregate data (e.g., total play counts across all users) may remain.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS / TLS), salted + hashed passwords, and access controls on our backend. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at team@trending.fm if you believe a child has provided information.
