Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 17, 2026
1. Introduction
Trending Music (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Trending Music web application at trending.fm and the Trending Music iOS application (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. You may optionally provide a display name, username, avatar image, bio, and favorite genre.
Listening Activity
We record which songs you play, when you play them, and how long you listen. This data powers features like AI DJ, Daily Mix, Artist Station, and your listening stats. Listening history is private by default and only shared if you explicitly opt in via Settings → Social & Privacy → Share Listening Activity.
Library Data
We store your favorites, playlists, saved albums, and queue to sync them across your devices. If you connect Spotify, we import library data you authorize (saved tracks, playlists, albums) and store it within Trending Music.
Social Data
If you use social features, we store your follower/following relationships, chat messages sent in listening parties, song suggestions, emoji reactions, and activity feed events. Chat messages in parties are subject to automated profanity filtering.
Payment Information
Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full card details on our servers. Stripe provides us with a tokenized reference, your billing email, and subscription status.
Usage & Device Data
We collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, and interaction events (clicks, searches, page views). This helps us improve the Service and troubleshoot issues.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and operate the Service (playback, playlists, search, queue)
- Personalize your experience (AI DJ, Daily Mix, Artist Station, recommendations)
- Power social features (activity feed, leaderboard, listening parties)
- Process subscription payments via Stripe
- Send transactional emails (password resets, subscription receipts)
- Analyze usage to improve the Service and fix bugs
- Enforce our Terms of Service and prevent abuse
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not serve behavioral advertising.
4. Privacy Controls
You have granular control over your privacy. All settings are found at Settings → Social & Privacy:
- Public Profile — Controls whether others can discover and view your profile. Default: on.
- Share Listening Activity — Controls whether your listening history appears in friends' feeds, the leaderboard, and public stats. Default: off.
- Show Followers & Following — Controls whether your follower/following lists are visible to others. Default: on.
- Private Session — A temporary toggle that pauses all activity sharing for the current session.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to data they collect.
- YouTube — Music content is sourced from YouTube. Your playback requests are processed server-side; we do not share your identity with YouTube.
- Spotify — If you connect Spotify, we use their API to import your library. We access only the data you authorize.
- Legal obligations — We may disclose data if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights and safety.
6. Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies for authentication (session token) and preferences (theme choice). We use browser local storage to cache your library data for faster loading. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising pixels.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Listening history used for recommendations may be retained in aggregated, anonymized form. Chat messages in listening parties are stored for the duration of the party and may be cleared after the party ends.
If you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account), we delete your personal data, playlists, favorites, and social connections. Some anonymized aggregate data (e.g., total play counts) may remain.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to safeguard your information.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected].
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
